Looking back on 2025 and ahead to 2026
In this blog we look back on a year of change at Onnu. In 2025 we launched Onnu Bioflow and unveiled our proprietary pyrolysis technology, CarboFlow. We look ahead to what 2026 may bring.

The start of a new year always seems like a good time to reflect on the previous 12 months and look ahead to what the next year will bring.
2025 was most certainly a year of growth and significant change at Onnu. In April we launched our renewable commodities arm, Onnu Bioflow, to cater for organisations needing biochar and biocarbon at scale. Through Onnu Bioflow, we’ve seen the biochar market gather real momentum, highlighted by a significant 650m2 order.

Towards the end of 2025 we saw a sharp increase in the number of large, bulk quantity enquiries coming through for biochar, on a scale that we have not previously experienced. This gives us real confidence that this momentum will continue and increase in 2026.
Beyond Onnu Bioflow, our primary focus across 2025 was the development of our own technology and strategic shift from project developers to technology providers. In late November, after a huge effort from our engineering team, we announced the rollout of our proprietary pyrolysis technology, CarboFlow.

The first site to operate CarboFlow is Aumkar Plantation, in Sabah, Malaysia, where agricultural residues will be converted into renewable energy, high-grade biochar, and carbon removal credits. And January 2026 will see our technology reach British shores, at ReGenEarth’s dairy farm and AD digestate site in Sedgefield, to create a first fully circular and self-sustaining farm-based hub.

Looking ahead, 2026 is shaping up to be another exciting year for Onnu. Many more organisations are looking to unlock the value of their underutilized biomass and are viewing CarboFlow as the ideal solution. The driving force behind developing our own technology was to make pyrolysis a truly viable commercial solution and we’re excited that this goal is starting to become a reality for many more projects that previously didn’t quite stack up. We look forward to announcing these new projects across the UK, Europe and Asia very soon.
So, from our team to yours, here’s to a happy, healthy and successful 2026!
